Gadaffi National Mosque Launched
The President of Libya and chairman of the African Union has officially opened a Kampala mosque that was started 30 years back by the then President Idi Amin.
The Gadaffi National mosque is named after Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi who helped finance its construction. Traffic around Old Kampala was diverted and some roads blocked as the ceremony took place. Cyclists and Boda Bodas helped transport all those who were going to witness the opening ceremony as public cars were banned from accessing that part of the city.
The mosque which was opened today can accommodate up to 15,000 worshippers. The ceremony was also attended by among others the Presidents of Burundi, Zanzibar & Djibouti.
